This is my rant.

Okay.  This is just blunt ole me you are going to get today.  I've been thinking/seeing/feeling some of these things for awhile, but today... today is the day I get it off my chest.

First up, some of these blogs I see just really need to get hit with a reality stick.  I mean SERIOUSLY.

I am tired of seeing "big blog" people bully small blog girls.  Look, no matter the size of your blog or how many followers you have on twitter or facebook- YOU STARTED AT 0 ONCE TOO. And if you keep on treating people like crap, you will see it again.

I'm tired of seeing people think they are entitled to just do what they want, when they want, and to who they want just because they are the author of _______ blog and they have a gazillion followers.  Ladies- you aren't any better than a blog with 2 followers.

Blogging is strangely like high school in a lot of ways.  You find a group, you hang with them.  And there's always the "mean girls".  Believe me, you know them when you see them.  And it's not in a good way. They radiate ignorance and are grasping for attention with the stupid things they do & act.

Just in the last week I cleaned out my blog list.  There were some blogs that I've read for a long time that got the axe.  Why?  Because they got too big for themselves.  They started out writing for them.  And ended up writing for popularity.   It all ends the same way- people start not liking you because the real YOU is lost.

Now yes, we all want big numbers of followers.  But I'll be shutting my blog down before I go and act like I've seen some act lately.  Deleting them from my Twitter and blog has been a great feeling.  And I'd MUCH rather have a few followers who I know read me for ME than a huge following of people who I guarantee are sitting back cringing at what you say and do to others.

Blogging is a great way to meet new friends.  I have made several new friends who I consider my GOOOOOOD friends now.  And I love that the blogging community brought us together.  But I hate seeing those who have made it another popularity contest.

This is just me.  And I'd much rather be a little unknown blogger than be a big one who wants to charge my friends money or downgrade my followers for their time to read my daily life.

That's all.

  2. I'll be honest, I've felt like I should blog for popularity to get followers... but when I tried, it seemed too fake. I finally realized, the reason I blog is to be me and if you don't like the me you see in my blog, I don't care anymore.
I love your blog, Kayla. I never wonder if you're being sincere in what you say or not.

  3. This is so so so so true. There are a few blogs that I've recently unsubscribed from because it seems like they've gotten to be more about the money they're making then caring about their readers.

  4. Amen sister!!! I love to read your blog because it's all about you. I know I am not going to find 20 posts begging for sponsors or posts saying why your blog is the greatest. I am not against blogs having sponsors but some lose sight of the fact on why they started a blog in the first place. Keep on being you!!

  5. Amen! I've been feeling this was a lot about some bloggers too! But then on the flip side there are some "big bloggers" who are just as humble and sweet as they were when they had five followers ... Love the bloggers who stay true to themselves no matter their size!!!

  6. I just posted something similar to this a little bit ago! It's so frustrating when you're still small and just trying to put yourself out there. I hate when I put effort into a comment just to get a "thanks for reading" back. I definitely unfollowed a few blogs already for this reason alone. I agree it's totally like high school. I've already seen a few "clique" situations that make me want to scream. I'm fairly new to your blog but I love your honesty!

  7. Amen sista! I totally did the same thing and ya know what I could care less how many followers I have. Would I like to have a lot yes but I would much rather my readers know me and enjoy my writing for mp who I am not because of how big my blog is.

  8. Thanks for saying this!! At times I still feel like a "newbie" and there are bigger bloggers that I actually enjoy reading sometimes, but they don't even give me the time of day! It's pretty annoying! I mean, I could be a new bff that you just missed out on, who knows!? And continuing on the subject of getting big, I am personally not a fan of a large group giveaway with a gazillion contributors! I don't have the time of day to go through 20 blogs and see if I want to follow them and NO I'm not going to follow just so I can get the prize. I want to enjoy who I'm reading. I never plan on doing large group giveaways because I don't want to get followers who are just there for the prize, I want followers that I can get to know personally. Anyways, that's my rant! :) lol

  9. I would say that you are in a blogger clique with some of the girls that are now writing for popularity. I think being in a blog clique that purposefully excludes others is just as bad as the other things you mentioned here.

  10. I'm popping over after seeing a tweet from Betsy Transatlantically about this, and I just want to say, this was such a great post! Your honesty is a breath of fresh air. Keep on doing what you're doing! :)

  11. I love that you wrote this. I just started out and already agree. It's really awesome to see that people actually read what I have to say and me vice versa btu there are some blogs I won't even check because every post is the same and attention craving.

  12. I do want followers--I want to be a published author and I want to have an audience for my writing. But I don't think you have to act fake or mean to get there. I'll help anybody out who emails me with questions about blogging to the best of my ability! I think it's sad when you take the time to read and read and comment and comment and comment on a blog that has more followers than you do, and you never even get one response back. It is disappointing!

  13. I absolutley love this post!!! Being from a smaller blog I often feel like I am not a part of the "cool kids" blog world. I wasnt in high school either though LOL. I would like a larger readership but if that doesnt happen I will remain true to me. Thats the point of blogging right? I enjoy your blog and sincerly appreciate this post!

  14. Thank you for this post...

Big bloggers know that they aren't celebrities, right? I'm beginning to think they don't realize that.

    I'd rather have 20 readers, than 1,000 followers :)

  15. Gosh, I guess I am way out of the game. I don't see this that often :-( Makes me sad to hear about. But I've also gotten terrible at READING blogs. I pretty much just write mine as fast as I can during nap time for the sake of memory keeping ;-) ha!

  16. I've gotten to the point where I don't read sponsor post. And I really don't like it when I see blogs in my feed "taking sponsors". I read a blog because I like that person. I think it's ridiculous to pay money to someone to get traffic to your blog. It takes the fun out of blogging.

  17. I love this post! I saw someone the other day get an ad denied because they didn't have enough followers! WHO DOES THAT?! I hope I never get so "big" that I forget I started small. I hope that I never let stuff like that go to my head. So ridiculous! And I truly do not like Blog cliques. It totally closes them off to others.
This really was a great post! Go you!
